As an experienced chiropractor, Dr. Spencer loves helping people heal and live a happier, more productive lifestyle. He uses a combination of Chiropractic Adjustments with Muscular Therapy. He has found that the body, when it is injured or overused, will transition into it's protective mode, ie. producing trigger points and muscle spasms. These muscle spasms can develop into their own self-perpetuating entity (causing itself to remain in spasm). If these spasms are not specifically treated, they can pull on the vertebrae (spine) or bones of the extremities (arm or leg). This in turn creates added stress, irritation and even inflammation (swelling) in those joints. This then requires added treatments and extended time in the healing process. If the muscles are treated, but the joints are ignored then the irritation in the joints will cause a recurrance of the spasms in the musculature. Therefore there is a need to treat both. Dr. Spencer has found that by treating the musculature along with the joints, the muscular strain on the joints is reduced and fewer visits are needed in the long run and this also gives a more thorough healing effect (fewer visits, faster healing time and better relief).
Dr. Spencer can help your suffering from so many ailments; from headaches, back and neck pain, to everyday aches and pains to auto accident and work injuries, and even chronic muscular pain. All without the necessity of monthly or weekly maintenance!

Muscle spasms are contracted muscle that individually a person cannot tell it or mentally will it to relax. (It is a reflex that occurs in the spinal cord and not in the brain, so the brain can't tell it to relax.) It has to be delt with from the outside, which is why Massage Therapists have become so popular. Trigger points are a focalized point within a muscle spasm that can also create a traveling or radiating type of pain (ie. pain in the thigh and/or calf as a result of spasms in the gluteal (buttocks) muscles. [It is more common to have pain radiation as a result of trigger points than from a herniated (slipped) disc, or from facet syndrome (joint irritation), or arthritis.] Muscle spasms occur for a couple of reasons. First, it is a physical protective mechanism, to keep the joint or muscle from extending into the same range of motion that caused the injury in the first place. Secondly, it is a mental/emotional protective mechanism, which aims to cause pain so that it lets you know that there is something going wrong, and that if intense enough, will force you to slow down and pay attention to the injury or chronic irritation so that it will not get any worse. So why are thay such a problem? They occur as a result of injury, pain, and fatigue. This muscular contraction can result in further pain and fatigue causing further muscular contraction, creating it's own vicious cycle, causing itself to remain. This cycle needs to be broken.

Dr. Spencer graduated with honors from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1993. The following year he moved to New Hampshire and started Hooksett Family Chiropractic. While in practice in Hooksett, he also taught the trigger point therapy course at NEIWH (Massage Therapy School in Manchester). After 9 years he decided to sell his practice and moved to Utah and purchased a practice there, in order to be closer to extended family. Missing the New Hampshire area, Dr. Spencer and his family moved back in November 2008 and purchased a practice from Dr. Brett Leclair in Hampton.
